Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Houthi group in Yemen announced that it had targeted a new container ship in the Red Sea, on Wednesday, saying it was heading to Israeli ports.
The spokesman for the Yemeni forces affiliated with the Houthi group, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said in a statement published on the X platform (formerly Twitter):
“The naval forces of the Yemeni Armed Forces, with the help of God Almighty, carried out a targeting operation against the CMA CGM TAGE ship, which was heading to the ports of occupied Palestine.”
Saree added, “The targeting operation came after the ship’s crew refused to respond to calls from the Yemeni naval forces, including fiery warning messages.”
The container ship belongs to the French shipping company CMA CGM, and flies the Maltese flag.
It appears that the ship is still in operation, as it is moving at a speed of 17 knots, according to data from the maritime navigation monitoring website Vessel Finder. It departed from the port of Singapore on December 22, and is scheduled to arrive at the Egyptian port of Alexandria on January 6.

The military spokesman for the Houthis confirmed, “Navigation traffic continues in the Red and Arabian Seas to all destinations around the world, except for the ports of occupied Palestine.”
The spokesman warned that “any American aggression will not go unanswered or unpunished.” He continued: “The Yemeni armed forces warn the American enemy or others against any attack or measure that represents the protection of commercial ships that go to the Zionist entity.”
The Houthi group, supported by Iran, conditioned its cessation of targeting ships linked to Israel or those heading to its ports on the entry of aid into the Strip. The group launches missiles and drones towards Israel, in response to developments in the war in the Strip.
