A Saudi-led military coalition that has fought years of war in Yemen announced that the Houthis were launching ballistic missiles towards Riyadh and three drones trapping towards Jizan province, with a fourth drone heading for another southwestern city and another drone being monitored. While there has been no immediate comment from the Houthis, no casualties or damage have been reported from the attack.
The attack comes amid sharply rising tensions in the Middle East, a day after a mysterious explosion hit an Israeli-owned ship in the Gulf of Oman. The explosions renewed concerns about the safety of ships in strategic waters which have seen a spate of alleged attacks by Iran on oil tankers in 2019.

Footage of Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ekhbariya TV broadcast shows an explosion in the air over Riyadh. Social media users also posted videos, with some showing residents screaming as they watched explosions of fire pierce the night sky, apparently originating from Saudi Arabia’s Patriot missile batteries intercepting Houthi ballistic missiles.
“The Houthis are trying in a systematic and deliberate way to target civilians,” said the spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition, Colonel Turk al-Maliki, as quoted from the statement. AP, Sunday (28/2/2021).
