The Houston Texans have found their new head coach. It will be David Culley, who has been with the Baltimore Ravens for the past two years as Passing Game Coordinator, Wide Receiver Coach and Assistant Head Coach under Head Coach John Harbaugh.
For the 65-year-old, 2020 was his 27th season in the NFL as a coach. However, the Ravens finished last season in last place in terms of passing yards.
“David’s a sincere guy,” said Harbaugh ESPN knowledge. “He’s going to be himself every day. He’s been true to himself every day of his career. I’m very happy for him. Great person, sincere. Full of energy.”
Culley takes over an organization in chaos. Although the Texans were one of the first teams this season to fire their head coach – Bill O’Brien – they are now the last to find a new one. In addition, the future of quarterback Deshaun Watson is uncertain despite a long-term contract, as he apparently no longer has confidence in the team owner. In addition, the Texans have no draft picks in the first two rounds this year.
Culley began his NFL career in 1994 as a wide receiver coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and worked in that position for a total of six different franchises.
Ravens received two draft picks for Culley
Since he belongs to a minority as an African American, the Ravens will receive two compensatory draft picks in the third round in the next two drafts, as a kind of reward for one of their minority coaches or officials within the NFL for one Head Coach or General Manager post has been promoted.
At the Texans, on the other hand, Culley is the fourth full-time head coach in franchise history after Dom Capers, Gary Kubiak and O’Brien. In addition, the Texans were trained by Wade Phillips in 2013 and by Romeo Crennel in 2020 on an interim basis.
