Houston Texans Dominate Cleveland Browns in Wildcard Round

NFL Review Wildcard Round – Teil 1

Before we get to the two games on Saturday, here’s some important information, if you haven’t heard it yet, you can hear it here now. The game between the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers has been postponed from Sunday 7 p.m. to Monday 10:30 p.m. German time. The reason for this is the snow chaos in Buffalo. So now we basically have a double header on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Now to the two games on Saturday.

Houston Texans 45:14 Cleveland Browns

The game took a bit of time to get going, Cleveland got the ball first but was stopped relatively quickly. The home team’s first attempt also yielded nothing, after which Cleveland went 3 and out. But now the game got better, Houston built an attack for almost three minutes, which was crowned by a successful field goal from 21 yards by Ka’imi Fairbain. 3-0 for the Texans.

But the Browns were now also in the game and built an attack for just over three minutes, in the end Kareem Hunt ran one yard into the end zone for a touchdown and thus made it 7-3 for Cleveland. But the Texans countered in the first quarter and CJ Stroud served Nico Collins for 15 yards for a touchdown and 10:7 for Houston. That ended the first quarter.

The team from Ohio regained the lead with the first attack in the second. Joe Flacco found Kareem Hunt for 11 yards for a touchdown, making it 14-10.

But Houston wasn’t interested in that at all. On the next play, CJ Stroud found Brevin Jordan for 76 yards for a touchdown for the Texans. 17 to 14. Cleveland then had to leave the field after three attempts, but the Texans were also stopped early for once. The Browns’ next attempt was also unsuccessful and so the Texans got the ball with 5:44 to play in the second quarter. After an attack lasting four and a half minutes, CJ Stroud served Dalton Schultz for a touchdown for 37 yards. It was the rookie’s third touchdown in his first playoff game, making it 24 to 14 for the Houston Texans. The Browns’ last attack in the first half yielded nothing. Houston went into halftime with a 24-14 lead.

The second half began with an unsuccessful attack by Houston. Cleveland launched an attack that lasted 5 minutes, but it ended fatally from the Ohio team’s perspective. Joe Flacco threw an interception into the arms of Steven Nelson. And the Texans cornerback ran the ball into the end zone for a touchdown. 31 to 14. But things got even worse from the Browns’ perspective, because on the next attack Joe Flacco had another interception. This time it was Christian Harris, the Texans’ LB, who also carried the ball back for a touchdown. 38 to 14 for Houston. The Browns’ next attack yielded nothing. Houston’s offense ended the third and opened the final quarter. And again it ended with a touchdown, Devin Singletary ran 19 yards into the end zone to make it 45 to 14.

Cleveland’s next attack was unsuccessful, the Texans took CJ Stroud out and had an unsuccessful attack with Davis Mills. The Browns had another attack, but it yielded nothing and they then decided not to call their timeouts.

In the end, a well-deserved and unexpected victory for the Texans. They weren’t that much better in terms of yards, just over 30 yards better, but Houston was just brutally effective. CJ Stroud had an incredibly good game with 16 of 21, 274 yards and three touchdowns. He narrowly failed to make a perfect game, his rating coming in at 157.2. Nico Collins caught six balls for 96 yards and a touchdown. But the defense should also be praised. Desmond King had seven tackles, Christian Harris also had 7 tackles, plus a sack and an interception, which he returned for a touchdown.

Cleveland played a reasonable first half but then couldn’t keep up. The third quarter with two consecutive interceptions broke the Browns’ neck. Nevertheless, you shouldn’t talk badly about everything in Ohio, you should never forget how bad luck with injuries Cleveland had this season and it was a good season for that. Joe Flacco was 34 of 46 for 307 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. If he wants to continue playing, I’m pretty sure he’ll get a backup spot somewhere. David Njoku caught seven balls for 93 yards. Jeremiah Owusu Koramoah impressed with eight tackles.

While the season is over for the Browns, Houston still has at least one more game, against whom it will definitely not be decided until Monday. So dear Texans, enjoy the weekend and then let’s see who we’re up against next week.
