Houston Rockets Granted Permission to Interview Sam Cassell for Head Coaching Role

The Houston Rockets have received permission to interview current Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Sam Cassell for their head coaching vacancy, according to the outlet. The Houston Chronicle.

The Texas franchise began the search process for its new coach earlier this week after the departure of Stephen Silas was confirmed. In addition to Cassell, various reports indicate that the organization will also meet with at least Ime Udoka, Kenny Atkinson, Frank Vogel, Adrian Griffin, James Borrego and Kevin Young.

Cassell was an All-Star and won three rings during his playing career. He is currently in his 14th season as an assistant coach in the league, his third in Philadelphia. He previously served in this role with the Wizards and Clippers. For the past nine years he has been a part of Doc Rivers’ coaching staff.

The Rockets will be careful and patient in their selection process and will not make a final decision until they have completed at least one meeting with all candidates for the position.
