A rapper in Houston, USA, kidnapped a homeless woman and held her in his garage for at least four years before she was able to access the suspect’s computer to contact rescuers.

According to nbcnews, court records and Carter’s attorney said the woman allegedly held captive by Lee Carter, 52, was found in April, but the arrest on a felony aggravated kidnapping charge did not occur until last Thursday.

The records do not explain why it took authorities nearly nine months to arrest the suspect.

Carter paid $100,000 to secure his freedom and is no longer in the Harris County Jail, court files show.

The woman used Carter’s laptop to contact the police station to confirm that she was being detained, and no details were revealed about how she obtained the “laptop.”

The Houston Rescue Department crew went to Carter’s Perry Street home and opened the garage door and found a woman trapped inside and living in miserable conditions.

The room contained a “makeshift toilet that wouldn’t flush,” a mattress “covered in vomit,” and a few packages of potato chips and Twinkies. The room also appeared to be a parking garage, but both windows were boarded up.

Police found the 5-foot-2, 70-pound woman malnourished, “with a strong foul odor,” “flaky” hair, and wearing a T-shirt and shorts that “were filthy,” according to prosecutors. Court records did not indicate the woman’s age.

The woman told authorities that “about four or five years ago” she was begging in Houston when Carter picked her up, saying “he would help her,” and she was pregnant, according to the complaint.

The prosecution requested bail of $500,000, before the judge set it at $100,000, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which declined to comment on the court’s ruling.

The woman was pregnant when Carter picked her up, according to the complaint, but a Harris County District Attorney’s spokesman declined to say whether the woman had given birth to the child.
