Tony Finau holds the four-stroke lead at the Houston Open

Tony Finau takes a four stroke lead in the final round of the PGA Tour’s Cadence Bank Houston Open, with English duo Ben Taylor and Justin Rose leading the chasing pack.

Finau birdied twice in a bogeyless 68 at Memorial Park Golf Course, bringing it to 15-under and seeing him tie the tournament record of 54 holes.

The world No. 15 opened seven consecutive pars before breaking 20 feet at the eighth par four, Finau adding another at a similar distance on the 14th par four to stay in a lead position to claim a fifth PGA title Tours.

“It was a really good round,” said Finau. “I think the score doesn’t tell, but I think I played better than yesterday. You know, I shot 62 yesterday, but today what I got 68 was pretty impressive for the conditions.

“I hit the driver like always. I hit all 13 fairways today which I don’t think I’ve ever done in my PGA Tour career. So that was very important and because of that I was able to hit some birdies.

Taylor mixed six birdies with just one bogey to score a round 65 on the day and move to second over 11 under, with Rose in a three-way tie for third and seven strokes back after a third round 66.

“We knew we had to be very patient,” Taylor said, chasing his first PGA Tour title. “We hit a bogey that was the 10 and it was actually one of the easier shots, it was in the middle of the fairway. We certainly stole a few there and made some great shots and capitalized when we could and it was good to steal one of the last two for 65″.

Rose is in third place with Wyndham Clark and Tyson Alexander, while former US Open champion Gary Woodland is another shot from behind and shares sixth place with Joel Dahmen.

Scotland’s Russell Knox and England’s Aaron Rai are among the big six-under group heading into the final day, while Scottie Scheffler – who could have returned to world number one with a win – is in 25th after a third tower 71.
