Houston Dynamo FC announced this Wednesday the departure of Mexican Héctor Herrera, after rejecting the contract option for 2025 in the MLS.
Héctor was recently involved in a controversy in Houston’s last game against the Seattle Sounder in the league playoffs, as the tricolor was expelled from the game for spitting at referee Armando Villarreal for calling a foul on him. His team fell on penalties 7-6 after being tied 1-1.
The former Pachuca footballer arrived at Dynamo in the summer of 2022 from Atlético de Madrid to stay for two and a half years with an option for 2025. In his performance, Herrera made 69 appearances where he scored six goals and achieved 23 assists. Among his recognitions, the US Open Cup championship in 2023 stands out. Led by Ben Olsen, the tricolor also stood out for being the captain of the team.
In the team statement, Pat Onstad, general manager, thanked the players who would no longer be with the club for “their contributions to the club and I wish them the best in the next step of their careers.” The club rejected contract options for six other players and by 2025 it has 17 players.
