HOUSTON – The Houston Department of Health has urged the community to get flu shots so the immunization can take full effect before the Christmas and New Years celebrations.
The week of December 5-9 commemorates National Flu Vaccination Week, which is why this awareness campaign is taking place.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nine out of 10 adults who end up hospitalized with the flu have a medical precondition.
It is estimated that the effect of a vaccine takes about two weeks to be fully realized in the human body.
The Department of Health offers the flu shot to anyone over six months of age with or without health insurance.
What needs to be paid are some administrative costs that can reach $15.
