Chicago (USA), June 11 A goal from the Mexican María Sánchez stopped the Gotham of Spanish coach Juan Carlos Amorós this Sunday and gave the Houston Dash a 1-1 draw, in a day of the NWSL, the professional women’s soccer league in the United States in which the Orlando Pride struck down the reigning champions, the Portland Thorns.
Balance reigns in this year’s NWSL, with six teams on three points and Alex Morgan’s San Diego Wave leading the table tied with Washington on 20 points.
San Diego did not go beyond 0-0 against Racing Louisville and Washington took advantage of it to equalize them in the standings with their 2-1 win over bottom-placed Angel City.
The Thorns lost the opportunity to be leaders, who were traced back and fell 3-1 in the field of the Orlando Pride with a double included by the Brazilian Adriana Leal da Silva.
They have 19 points, one behind Washington and the Wave, as do Megan Rapinoe’s Reign, who beat the Kansas City Current 2-1, bottom side along with Angel City.
Just three points off the lead, and in full ‘playoff’ positions, are the North Carolina Courage, who signed the day’s win by crushing the Chicago Red Stars 5-0 at home.
The Brazilian Kerolin Nicoli Israel Ferraz was the great protagonist of the triumph with a hat-trick and is already the top scorer in the championship with seven goals. EFE
