The housing tax is not buried. A decree published in the Official Journal of Friday August 25, 2023 offers the possibility to 2,263 new municipalities to increase the council tax. A tool that aims to fight against the tension on the real estate market.
Here are the towns and villages of the Rhône having the possibility ofincrease from 5% to 60% this tax.
Who is concerned ?
Abolished on January 1, 2023 for main residences, the residence tax now only concerns second home owners and vacant homes.
Since 2017, 103 municipalities in the Rhône can decide to increase the annual housing tax for owners of secondary housing. The goal? Overtax these units in cities where the real estate market is saturated and dissuade owners from monopolizing the housing stock.

It is up to each of these 108 municipalities to decide or not to increase this tax, up to 5% and 60%. Many will increase their property tax in this new school year 2023, there is a good chance that they will take the plunge.
