Household “even more precise on a button” than 2021

The city of Uffenheim is missing around three million euros in this year’s budget, and the public utility company needs an additional one million euros for investments. A loan will be necessary. “We can meet our obligations, but things are not looking rosy,” said Mayor Wolfgang Lampe at the meeting of the finance committee, in which the budget was finally discussed in advance.

What had to be postponed in the years that followed was postponed, explained Mayor Wolfgang Lampe. “A lot is already happening,” he referred to mandatory tasks that you can’t get away from. Last but not least, he meant the investments in the sewage systems, in the kindergartens, construction areas, indoor swimming pools, open all-day schools or urgently needed renovations such as the Würzburg gate tower. For some of the projects that make up this year’s budget, which includes around 16.5 million euros on the expenditure side, it depends on getting the desired funding.

“We have to finish the big projects before we can do anything new,” said Lampe. “We’re reaching the limit where we can’t get any more loans,” the mayor said, explaining the situation.

Lifting floor for swimming pool cheaper than expected

“This year’s budget is even more precise,” said city councilor Bernhard Schurz (SPD) with a view to the budget in 2021. The question should therefore be: “What do we have to do now?”

Five million euros will probably be needed for the indoor pool this year, and there could be 3.5 million euros in funding this year. At its most recent meeting, the construction and management committee also recommended the installation of a lifting floor for the indoor swimming pool, since this is said to be cheaper than originally thought. This should cost around 150,000 euros. If installed, the otherwise necessary backfilling of the pool, which would cost around 100,000 euros, would be eliminated.

Accessible toilet costs 108,000 euros

The Greens on the city council had applied for a photovoltaic system to be installed on the roof of the indoor pool. Public utility manager Martin Stellwag had calculated some financing models here. In principle, the finance committee recommended such a system, but a number of details, including the possibility of attachment, still had to be clarified.

For the kindergartens, the expenses add up to around 1.93 million euros, and there are said to be around 1.52 million euros in funding. The committee rubbed their eyes when there was talk of installing a barrier-free toilet in the existing St. Johannis day-care center. Approval for the new crèche was made a condition. The toilet can be installed in the existing building. It should cost 108,000 euros. 60 percent of that will have it as a sponsorship. On the one hand, the committee was surprised at the high costs, which, according to chamberlain Birgit Kaspar, had been recognized by the government of Middle Franconia, and on the other hand, why none existed yet.
