House Urges Cabinet to Find Budget for RS Virus Vaccination Program Following Health Council Recommendation

Last month, the Health Council recommended that all babies be vaccinated against the RS virus through the national vaccination program. According to the cabinet, there is no money for this. The House has now instructed the outgoing cabinet to find a budget for this during the discussions for the spring memorandum.

Giving children a seasonal vaccination saves on future treatment costs, the Health Council wrote in its advice.

“Some of these children, often young babies, become seriously ill. That is extremely serious,” says D66 MP Wieke Paulusma, who submitted the proposal. “First and foremost for the child itself, but also for the parents. The stories are moving. The sooner we start vaccinating, the more disease suffering we can prevent.”
