For an as yet unclear reason, the fire broke out just after 7 pm. The Zone Rand fire brigade was quickly on site in the Kinderstraat, but on arrival the flames already burst through the roof. The wooden floor allowed the fire to spread very quickly. The top floor is completely burned out.
The residents of the single house, a family of eight, were able to get themselves to safety in time. “A perennial person who inhaled too much smoke was taken to hospital for a check-up,” says Bob Verschueren of the local police Hekla.
The fire brigade fought the fire with all their might and got the fire under control. However, due to the fire, smoke and water damage, the house has been declared uninhabitable. “The people are received in an emergency home by the municipality of Lint and the OCMW”, Verschueren continues.
