“We are experiencing an exceptional time in the real estate market because there are a lot of potential buyers,” says Bart Van Opstal of the Federation of Notaries. This means that real estate activity in our country remains high. In the first six months of this year, the number of transactions increased by almost 17 percent compared to the same period in 2019. “There is sometimes a hard fight to buy a property, so that people sometimes buy something in a hurry,” says Van Opstal.
“Especially homes in the center cities are very much in demand. So you have to be quick. But we still recommend that you remain careful so that you do not buy a cat in a bag.” Compared to the first half of 2020, the number of transactions is 30 percent higher, but that is not saying much because the real estate market has come to a standstill for a while during the corona year.
