House of Tourism Project in Former Breitling Building Faces Delays and Cost Increases

The former Breitling building on the market square is being converted into the House of Tourism. It will not be ready for the European Football Championship, when thousands of visitors are expected in the city. The costs of the project were also discussed at the topping-out ceremony.

A construction site in the middle of the market square? There are more pleasant and less complicated places where buildings can be completely gutted and remodeled. But Stuttgart-Marketing GmbH has taken on the challenge – knowing full well that a project like this can also attract critics if it doesn’t go as planned. And Armin Dellnitz, the managing director of Stuttgart-Marketing GmbH and Regio Stuttgart Marketing- und Tourismus GmbH, has felt headwind in the past few months. This was mainly due to additional costs and construction delays. According to current calculations, the House of Tourism will cost 20.4 million euros. In autumn 2020, the costs for a renovation of the former Breitling fashion house were estimated at 10.5 million euros. “We are currently within the budget of 20.4 million euros,” says Dellnitz.
