The law prescribes that the amount increases every year with the increase in healthcare costs. The House of Representatives does not think that this is fair. “The deductible must of course go away. An idiotic fine for being sick,” says SP MP Kwint, the creator of the proposal.

The cabinet has not yet promised to implement the proposal, summarized in a so-called motion. The deductible will only be discussed in a few weeks’ time when the cabinet discusses plans for next year. It will then be officially announced on Prinsjesdag, the third Tuesday in September.
But Minister Van Ark for Medical Care has already hinted at listening to the House’s wish. “I can count too,” she said in the House of Representatives today.
Many parties want to adjust their own risk, according to the election programs. Government parties VVD, CDA and ChristenUnie want to freeze the amount, D66 argues for a ‘reform’, and the PVV, SP, PvdA, Party for the Animals and Denk want to get rid of it completely.
But this has to be done at the negotiating table of a new cabinet and there is no prospect of that for the time being.
