A majority in the House of Representatives wants stricter environmental standards for Tata Steel. The parties support GroenLinks’ call on the outgoing cabinet to make maximum use of the scope offered by European regulations to further limit the emission of harmful substances by Tata Steel.
A RIVM report recently showed that residents living near the steel factory in IJmuiden are exposed to high concentrations of toxic substances. Nevertheless, the company always complies with the conditions attached to its permits.
“Even though Tata complies with the permits, the health situation for local residents is dramatic,” says GroenLinks MP Tom van der Lee. “It is therefore clear that the emissions standards that Tata must meet are not strict enough.”
Tata adheres to all the rules, why do we get sick anyway?
