“House Hunting in Zoetermeer: The Struggle for a Family Home on a Small Budget”

Santosh and Vanity are looking for a house. And that is urgently needed, because they now sleep in one room with their two children. Of course, that does not improve living comfort. “It’s very spicy,” says Vanity. The couple is looking for a house with a garden and they would like their children to have a separate bedroom. The house must also be located near Zoetermeer.

The two have a small budget, so it is very difficult to find a house for the couple in times of high interest rates and overbidding. “It’s almost impossible,” says real estate agent Alex during his house hunt.

Then Alex has to come by for a concession interview anyway, because he can’t find a single house for the couple. He has to disappoint Vanity and Santosh: for the budget of 355,000 euros, he can only find apartments near Zoetermeer. And that while the couple is really looking forward to a single-family home with a garden. “Sorry,” says Vanity as she begins to cry. “I get it too, but it’s just a shame.”

Alex still feels sorry for the couple after the conversation. “This was by far one of the most difficult concession talks I’ve had. What a sadness. You just see the dream fall apart. But it is reality.”

But then, very unexpectedly, a single-family home with a garden and the desired number of bedrooms becomes available. Alex drums up Bob Sikkes to go and view immediately. “It is what it is, Bob. It’s not bigger,” says Alex during the viewing. Bob already has his hands in his hair. “I have to see how I solve it. Because you will buy the house later and then you are done and I will have a fraction of the money left and then I can solve it.”

Alex wins this battle, of course, because it’s the perfect home for Vanity and Santosh. When the couple visits the house, the two are already very happy that Alex managed to find a single-family home. Nevertheless, every effort is made to pimp up the house with a small budget. Leave that to Bob and Roos Reedijk. They make it a gem again.
