The government should enforce this in the European Union as well, which should stop distinguishing between the division of Hezbollah into political and military parts. The lower house resolved today at the instigation of the chairwoman of the House Committee on Defense, Jana Černochová (ODS).

“The Chamber of Deputies calls on the government to promote at the level of the European Union the abandonment of the concept of dividing Hezbollah into two parts and its full inclusion on the list of terrorist organizations,” the House resolution said. Seven years ago, EU foreign ministers included only the military wing of the movement on the European list of terrorist organizations.

According to the deputies, the government should also work to suppress Hezbollah’s influence in the world in order to strengthen international security. The House also stated that its resolution “is not a hostile act towards the Lebanese people and that it is interested in maintaining a partnership with the Lebanese Republic”. Hezbollah representatives are part of the Lebanese government.

“Hezbollah as a whole is considered a terrorist group in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Argentina, Paraguay, Colombia, but even the Arab League and other countries. The last time Germany and Austria took over the designation of Hezbollah was a resolution of their parliaments, “said the draftswoman Jana Černochová (ODS). She noted that the inclusion of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization was supported in a joint declaration by hundreds of legislators in transatlantic countries in the first half of this year.

Speaking to the UN General Assembly in late September, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hezbollah of having a secret weapons depot in a residential area of Beirut, Lebanon, near the international airport. He called on Lebanese to protest against Hezbollah and its “Iranian sponsors.” Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said in response that the Israeli prime minister was lying and trying to turn Lebanese against Hezbollah.

The lower house called on the government to start drafting a bill that would allow a national list of terrorist organizations to be drawn up.
