Darmstadt ⋅ The House for Industrial Culture on Kirschenallee, a branch of the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt, remains closed to the public until further notice. Museum director Martin Faass has now announced this. He commissioned a report on the condition of the building facade in October 2023. It now shows further structural defects.
The museum has been enclosed by scaffolding for several years because defects in the yellow clinker brick facade have long been known. The director explained upon request that the safety of the scaffolding had also now been checked. The house houses a printing museum on three floors. “The temporary closure is purely a precautionary measure until we have the assessments from the experts on how to proceed,” explained Faass. As a precautionary measure, the house will remain closed to the public until it is clarified whether further security measures are necessary. The work of volunteers must also be temporarily paused. They were currently in the process of creating a Christmas catalog.
