A confused man set fire to a house on Enzerink in Eindhoven on Saturday evening. When emergency services arrived, the man did not want to leave his house. He threatened the firefighters and police and said he would use a gun. The police then fired warning shots.

The fire broke out around ten to eight in the evening. The man is believed to have set fire to a bank. The fire brigade was quickly on the scene, but could not enter the house immediately. At that moment, the man opened a balcony door on the first floor, a 112 correspondent said. He shouted that there were sixteen gas bottles inside and the whole house was going to explode.

Houses evacuated
The response was quickly scaled up and the entire block was evacuated. The fire brigade then smashed a window to extinguish the fire inside. The man was still in the house at the time and did not want to leave. He shouted that he had a gun and the police then fired several warning shots.

A special arrest team with police dogs had to be deployed to arrest the man. He eventually surrendered. The police found no weapon.

The incident attracted a lot of attention and the street was closed for a long time. No one was injured. The man was taken to hospital for a check-up because he had inhaled a lot of smoke. According to local residents, the man is the ex-partner of the resident of the house.
