Located in southwestern Asia, Iran stretches from Turkey to Pakistan, over 2,300 km. It is bordered to the north by the Caspian Sea and to the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, facing the United Arab Emirates. The most mountainous country in the world, Iran has some coastal plains and fertile plateaus. It occupies 1,648,000 km2, and has 81 million inhabitants, including 8.7 million in Tehran, the capital.
