Gypsy Rose Blanchard grew up with her mother, Dee Dee, who throughout her upbringing claimed that Gipsy suffered from a series of severe diagnoses and medical conditions. However, Gypsy was in fact completely healthy – her mother had lied about her symptoms. Experts believe that Dee Dee’s behavior stems from the mental disorder Munchausens by proxy because she wanted to be her daughter’s savior and sole caretaker. This led to her inventing that her daughter suffered from various diagnoses and induced serious illnesses.
