There is a risk of numerous flight cancellations and delays: On Tuesday, March 22nd, the Verdi trade union called on the inspectors to go on all-day warning strikes at eight airports in Germany. This has consequences for the passengers: they cannot go through the security check or only to a limited extent. The following airports are affected:
- Frankfurt
- Berlin BER
- Bremen
- Hamburg
- Hannover
- Stuttgart
- Düsseldorf
- Cologne/Bonn
Almost all airlines therefore have to cancel flights on Monday and Tuesday. For thousands, that means they can’t go on vacation or business trips now. The employees of Ryanair, Tui, Lufthansa and Co. on the customer hotlines know how the journey will continue. In this article, you’ll learn how to reach them via phone or chat.
“Significant restrictions” at Lufthansa
The strikes mean “significant restrictions” on flight operations at the Lufthansa locations, the airline reported on Tuesday. Passengers are asked to find out about the status of their flight before departure. Many flights are canceled and some may be delayed.
Frankfurt am Main Airport is particularly affected. Departure from there is “not possible for local passengers” because the passengers cannot get through the security check. The company therefore asks not to travel to Frankfurt Airport on March 15th.
Lufthansa hotline
Passengers can rebook their tickets for canceled flights from March 14 or 15 free of charge. In addition to the employees on the customer hotline 069 86 799 799, Chatbot Lisa is also available.

That’s why the employees at the airports are on strike
Last week, Verdi had already carried out all-day warning strikes at several airports, which led to protests at airports and airlines.
The background to this is the collective bargaining that Verdi is conducting with the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies. A fifth round is scheduled for Thursday, March 24, in Raunheim near Frankfurt.
