As the Covid-19 epidemic is relatively under control, the Principality has authorized New Year’s celebrations in restaurants, but a hotel reservation will imperatively be required to enter Monaco on the evening of the 31st. The establishments are therefore overwhelmed with calls for the most part of French.

The number of new positive cases has been declining for a few days in Monaco. This Monday, December 28, only 4 were detected.
The authorities remain vigilant but the rules have been relaxed for these end-of-year celebrations, especially New Year’s Eve.

On December 31, the curfew will come into effect normally at 8 p.m. and any travel should be justified by a certificate. But the return of restaurant or show is now part of the exemptions.
Unlike bars, which will remain closed, restaurants have an exceptional authorization to open until 10:30 p.m. and hotel bars until 10 p.m.
It is therefore possible to celebrate the New Year on the Rock on condition that you present proof of accommodation on site in a hotel establishment at the entrance.
The French take advantage of the Monegasque exception
At the reception of the Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo, reservations are linked by telephone. Many customers are French who want to forget the sanitary restrictions for New Year’s Eve.
There has been an increase in attendance in the French segment, which represents 80% of the volume of reservations over the last seven days.
Last year, these bookings represented less than 10% of the total book volume. The Azureans, in particular, are looking for a getaway away from the much stricter rules on their territory.
“It’s to be at the table, be it convivial, away from home” explains a visitor who came to enjoy the Christmas market.
Some had not set foot in a restaurant since the first confinement last March and rediscover, relieved, the pleasure of removing the mask to eat.
Eric and Valérie, who live a few kilometers from Monaco, repeat this stopover several times a week.
It is a pleasure that we have been taken away for a while, something that we can understand. Afterwards, there are measures taken here which seem to me to be effective and therefore worth considering for France.
In Monaco, the mask is also compulsory and the hours of service of restaurants are regulated. Tables are limited to six people and are separated by at least 1.50m.
We also have the obligation, with the new legislation, to welcome only by reservation.
The principality’s government is very vigilant in respecting the rules and has announced that it has administratively closed four restaurants, as of December 24, for a period of four to seven days.
