Hotel Nordport Plaza insolvent due to Corona

The Hotel Nordport Plaza at Hamburg Airport has filed for bankruptcy due to the corona pandemic. The business of the ten-story four-star S-Hotel with its 188 beds will continue, however, said lawyer Tjark Thies from the law firm Reimer Rechtsanwälte, appointed by the Hamburg District Court as preliminary insolvency administrator on Thursday. The salaries of the more than 50 employees are secured through pre-financing for insolvency payments until the end of January.

Before the outbreak of the corona pandemic, the house, which was only opened in 2018 and is located directly on the runway, had pleasing occupancy figures. However, the corona-related travel restrictions led to a drastic slump, as the law firm announced. First of all, NDY Sechzehnte GmbH, as the operating company of the hotel, filed for bankruptcy on November 23, and the owner company – Nordport Hotel Bau GmbH & Co. KG – followed on November 27.

The insolvency administrator is currently analyzing the economic situation of the two companies and examining restructuring options. It is not yet possible to say whether the accommodation business can be continued in the long term. But there are basically good chances of finding a buyer for the hotel, explained Thies.
