Restaurants are reopening as their bosses search for arms. With the arrival of the third stage of deconfinement, bars and restaurants can once again welcome their customers inside, respecting a 50% gauge. But recruitment concerns emerge as the summer season approaches.
According to Thierry Grégoire, president of the Union of seasonal hotel trades and industries (Umih), the sector needs 300,000 seasonal workers each year. However, among these jobs, 100,000 are not filled. “The difficulties are not unique to the pandemic. For ten years, we have every year 100,000 jobs that are not filled, he explains to West France. We are having a little more difficulties at the moment because we have employees who have changed sector of activity. But the problem of tension is not new. “
Less hiring difficulties in Île-de-France
According to the Pôle Emploi “Labor Needs” survey, published on May 4, the accommodation and catering sector plans 292,270 hiring projects in 2021. 57.9% are seasonal jobs.
This Pôle Emploi survey was carried out between October and December 2020, with the aim of better understanding the intentions of companies in terms of recruitment. The public establishment questioned employers about the anticipated recruitment difficulties. For the accommodation and catering sector, the study reveals that 41.3% of hiring projects in 2021 are considered difficult by employers.
Here are the details by region:
With 25.2% of hiring projects deemed difficult, employers in Île-de-France seem to have less difficulty recruiting than their counterparts in other regions.
In Center Val de Loire, Bourgogne Franche-Comté, New Aquitaine or even in the Grand Est, employers anticipate recruitment difficulties for more than half of their projects. Brittany is a little above (45.6%) the national average.
“The brake today is really housing. Companies do not have the capacity to accommodate seasonal workers and this is a subject that has existed for a long time ”, Thierry Grégoire analysis. Today, politicians must take their responsibility. It is very important to remove these obstacles to hiring. “
According to the president of Umih Seasonal, digitizing recruitment could facilitate hiring. For a connection between job seekers and business leaders, Umih thus launched, on May 26, a recruitment platform baptized UNHCR EMPLOYMENT. This solution should simplify the administrative procedures for job seekers and employers.
Anyway, Thierry Grégoire is not worried. “I am convinced that we will be able to hire because we have an appetite for young students who will want a summer job. I am quite optimistic about it ”, he assures.
