He said, for example, in winter, an Estonian cow produces about 60 kg of butter per month, but in summer it drops to about 48-50 kg.
“Traditionally, milk is fatter in summer, and in recent years there has been a shortage of cream in stores every summer,” Kertu Kárka, communications manager at Prisma supermarket, points out. Kivine pointed out that there was a similar situation in Estonia in 2017 as well, and that consumer behavior, such as stockpiling during times of food shortage, makes the situation worse.
The supply of milk and cream has also been affected, and as a result the prices of sour cream, whipped cream and coffee cream have increased.
To solve this problem, for example, “Coop” made an urgent order of butter from Latvia and Lithuania.
