There is no genetic engineering in the plant

But don’t worry: they are genetically modified

There are months when there is very little going on when it comes to games. Completely different in autumn 2023: While summer temperatures still prevail outside, the heat is transferred to the German playrooms. We have put together the hottest candidates who are currently lighting up your consoles. And reveal who the game is suitable for.

Spider-Man 2

Yes, he’s swinging again! In Sony’s “Spider-Man 2” we get to take turns controlling two Spider-Mans: Peter and Miles. Both have their own characteristics, doubling our options to approach the action game. We swing and fight our way through the beautifully staged New York in the fight against nasty and sometimes huge opponents. Graphically, the game is a real eye-catcher and impressively beautiful. The story about the two Spider-Men and their supposedly tough opponents is told charmingly and the production is polished to a high gloss.

Thanks to the spectacular tutorial, the player quickly finds his way into the game and can decide for himself how hard being a superhero really is using different levels of difficulty. The game will be released on October 20th for the Playstation 5. If you like the Spider-Man and his youthful world even a little, you have to try the game. This is gaming close to perfection – if you like action adventures in the style of Batman or its predecessor Spider-Man.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Bigger, more epic, EVEN bigger: If you follow the development of Ubisoft’s “Assassin’s Creed” series in recent years, it quickly becomes clear that the excursions to Egypt, ancient Greece and pre-medieval Scandinavia can only be described with superlatives. Left behind for many players: The fun and central aspects of the predecessors. They are now returning with “Assassin’s Creed Mirage”: a compact game world, the focus on stealth, a significantly reduced role-playing system. And as the saying goes: sometimes less is clearly more.

We experience the events mainly in the medieval city of Baghdad. We return to the roots of the series with the main character Basim. But it doesn’t seem old-fashioned. The streamlined “Assassin’s Creed”, which was originally intended as DLC for the last part “Valhalla”, is really fun. There is criticism for some graphical stutters and glitches that we noticed on the Playstation 5. Anyone who lost the series recently but is an assassin at heart should give Mirage a chance. It will be released on October 5th for Playstation 5 and 4, Xbox One and Series and Windows.

EA Sports FC24

Honestly? We had to take a year off. The “Fifa” series was stalled in 2022 and the focus on the gaming aspect of Ultimate Team put us off – even though we had actually played all iterations of the football simulation. We are all the more excited to see what EA will bring to the market with the reboot of the series under a new name. First of all: The changes will also be manageable in 2024. The defense is partly more understandable, but more difficult. In attack, we also use tactics other than the through pass to score goals. This makes the game more varied. The revamped career mode also benefits from this, because we can now use noticeably different tactics and align our transfer policy accordingly.

All in all, the game has become interesting again for solo and couch co-op players. In the Ultimate online mode, where teams are formed from players drawn from card packs, female players can now also be drawn. It’s actually a cool innovation, but it wasn’t just well received by the community. Parents beware: Since the packs are random and can also be purchased with money, the game is no longer released for ages 0 and up, unlike its predecessors, but for ages 12 and up.

Baldur’s Gate 3

Quite simply: If you like pen & paper role-playing games, you have to play this game. Of course, you should also like the special features of “Dungeons & Dragons” in general and dwarven and elven fantasy in particular. If these requirements are met, one of the best genre games of recent years awaits us. We control a group of fantastic characters who tease each other or even fall in love with each other. Together they experience a profound story full of spectacular twists – and after many hours of play, one of many possible endings.

After the PC, “Baldur’s Gate 3” was now also released on the consoles and plays fantastically there. The tactical battles thrive on the countless combinations of skills that the high-level characters in particular have. Only the inventory becomes a bit confusing over time. The complexity of the game might deter beginners. That would be a shame, because once you’ve immersed yourself in the world, you remain trapped. So if you haven’t enjoyed it yet, you should use the fall to play.

Starfield

What was speculated in advance? The greatest game of all time. Countless planets to explore endlessly. The quality and liveliness of games like Skyrim. But the gaming community was somewhat misled by the reporting in advance. Bethesda’s Starfield is different. However, anyone who knows the studio’s “Fallout” series will immediately feel at home. Because “Starfield” feels like another part of the series – just in space. We discover star systems, explore limited areas on planets, fight against space pirates with our self-built spaceship and experience well-written quests. And it’s all much more lively than in the aforementioned post-apocalyptic series.

Once you let go of expectations, the typical Bethesda pull of discovering, fighting, and leveling up develops. In addition, “Starfield” – unlike “Fallout” or “Skyrim” – tells a really great main story with spectacular twists. But the truth is that “Starfield” is just as brittle and unpolished as typical Bethesda games and is therefore certainly not for everyone. But if you try it, you won’t regret it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 scanned planets.
