H AEK with her clear victory in the derby of the 6th matchday with Panathinaikos (2-0) at OPAP Arena temporarily rose to the top of the Super League, however, inside the PAE it seems that there are open fronts that, if not closed, may create chaos, with unpredictable consequences in terms of the tranquility of the football department.
What is happening in the Union is not surprising, because it is in a transitional stage! PAE changed owner as o Dimitris Melissanidis he handed over the keys to the company to Marios Iliopoulos who didn’t know anything about football. The people of the new owner wanted to have the first say in critical decisions, especially in the transfer of the team and this resulted in questioning the role of the executive director Panagiotis Kone and the technical director Radek Kuharski.
M. Iliopoulos gave his cousin Antonis Iliopoulos, who initially dealt with the academies, a place to act within the PAE. But it didn’t stop there. Together with his friend and former football player of AEK Rafik Jibur they also dealt with transfers to the first team. The two are said to have played a catalytic role in his much-discussed transfer Anthony Martial.
At the beginning of the week it became known that Yannis Papadopoulos, who was the closest associate of the “tiger”, resigned from AEK. Papadopoulos was a heavy card for the “yellow and black” PAE, without having a place in its organizational chart. However, all matters concerning the team, from the hiring of an usher to an expensive transfer, went through him. In essence, he replaced D. Melissanidis when he could not attend. In addition, he was the extra-administrative factor that had contacts with the PES (and not only) on behalf of the Union. “It was absolutely my choice. I made the decision because a circle was closed” was the laconic statement of Papadopoulos (at dikisports.blogspot.com), who bitterly left the “two-headed” for some things that had been discussed within the team and directly concerned him. He hasn’t said a word about them, nor is he going to.
A succession of layoffs and resignations follows
M. Iliopoulos has been informed that there is a confusion of responsibilities in PAE and mainly about the problems created by this situation. For this reason, he is expected to take matters into his own hands and in the coming days more removals or resignations from PAE will be announced. In order to avoid unrest in the football department, last Thursday the major shareholder of PAE was at the training center of AEK in Spata and in his speech to the players he mentioned possible departures, which concern the organization chart of the Union. The most important is the end of PAE’s collaboration with P. Kone (he was replaced by Javier Ribalta). His contract was renewed during the days of M. Iliopoulos, he ran the implementation of the recent transfer plan guided by his wishes Matias Almeida and his departure is his own decision.
Priority is the calm in the football department
“Regarding any departures that may arise, I don’t want anyone to be affected, nothing changes in our daily life, we are here and I personally for anyone who needs anything, I am here for all of you and we continue as normal as before, we are a family” he said the owner of PAE AEK to its footballers.
For M. Iliopoulos, the priority is for M. Almeida to feel safe and happy that he works for AEK. After the exclusion of the Union from Europe, a lot had been said, inside and outside PAE, against the Argentinian coach, who was informed about everything and was cautious about his future in the team. For this reason, M. Iliopoulos had long hours of discussions with “Pelados” and it is said that he succeeded in disappearing every… bubble in their relationship.
