Hot Caution! Facebook Accuses Apple of Anti-Competition

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Facebook Inc accuses Apple Inc of anti-competitive practices through changes to its privacy rules which are planned to be rolled out via iOS 14.

Apple previously implemented new rules of labeling apps that allow users to block advertisers from tracking them after downloading apps from the App Store.

“Apple is behaving anti-competitive by using their control of the App Store to profit at the expense of application developers and small businesses. Stop it immediately,” said Dan Levy, Vice President for Ads and Business Products, Facebook. 2020).

Even so Dan Levy said Facebook will comply with the new rules and display Apple’s request even though the company actually does not agree with that.

“We have no choice if we want the Facebook application to be available on the App Store,” said Dan Levy.

In criticizing Apple, Facebook has made full-page advertisements in major US newspapers. The social media giant said Apple’s new privacy rules would limit the app’s ability to collect data from users’ phones that could be used for targeted advertising.

In response to this attack, Apple said its new rules would not require Facebook to change its “approach to tracking users and creating targeted advertising” but the opposite. Require Facebook to give Apple users an option whether to participate in the practice.

“We believe this is a simple matter of defending our users. Users must know when their data is being collected and shared across other applications and websites and they should have the choice to allow it or not,” said Apple.
