Hot air from the south: – Can be almost 30 degrees

The week starts rainy in several places – but the summer, it is not over at all.

Over the next few days, a blanket of hot air will gradually spread up the country from the south, over Eastern Norway and to some extent also further north, according to the forecasts of meteorologist on duty Jon Austerheim at the Meteorological Institute.

He says that one can expect that the degree will bend 25 more places, and maybe crawl even a little more after that.

“Temperatures will rise well, especially from Wednesday, and there is a potential for it to be over 25 degrees both in Østafjell and in the inner parts of the country,” Austerheim told Dagbladet.

– Is this what we can call southern temperatures?

– When you are up to 25 degrees, that’s probably it, yes. But in that case, this will mainly apply to Eastern Norway, the meteorologist answers.

Towards 30 degrees

However, some seem to get it even hotter. In our neighboring countries Sweden, Finland and Denmark, significantly warmer weather is actually expected.

– On Thursday and Friday, hot air is pumped in all over the country, and on Zealand and Lolland-Falster the temperatures on Friday can reach 33 degrees, says the Danish meteorologist on duty Klaus Larsen to Extra Bladet.

Austerheim at the Meteorological Institute does not rule out the possibility that temperatures may approach the 1930s also in Norway towards the end of the week, but emphasizes that the forecasts here are still uncertain.

– It may approach 30 degrees in some places in Eastern Norway on Sunday, but it is still a bit early to say, he says.

He further confirms the Danish meteorologist’s warning:

– The rest of Scandinavia gets the same weather situation as Norway and the further east, the warmer it gets. The eastern part of Sweden seems to be very hot, so there is an even greater chance that it will be 30 degrees. The same applies to Finland and Denmark, says Austerheim.

Danger of thunder

At the same time as the hot air creeps in over Norway – and then especially over the East Fjords, there will also be some low pressure, the meteorologist continues.

– We probably have a rather unstable period ahead of us, where the weather can change a lot. Low pressure from the south will provide heat, but also precipitation or humidity, he explains.

And not only that:

– There can be relatively heavy, short-lived rain showers, and there is also a danger of thunder, he adds.

The precipitation can, however, come in handy, according to the meteorologist, as it could help to reduce the danger of forest fires.

Heat to the west and north

In the western and northern areas of the country, it will probably not be as hot as in Eastern Norway, but also here the temperatures will rise in step with each passing day, says Austerheim.

– In the west and north, the weather will be more variable, and periods of rain are expected, but also here the temperatures will probably be on the way up to 20 degrees. This weekend, these parts of the country will also notice the summery air masses that come from the south of the continent, he says.

The warm air masses he is talking about are typical of the long-term period we have ahead of us, he further states. And in combination with a little precipitation, it can probably sometimes be experienced as something “clammy” to stay outdoors.

Snow on the high mountains

– What about tropical nights – is there any chance that we get it somewhere?

– Statistically speaking, it is too early in the summer for tropical nights. The sea is still relatively cool, so I do not quite believe that we will get it, the meteorologist answers.

Tropical nights are most typical in July and the first half of August, and most often along the Skagerak and the Oslo Fjord, he further explains.

– But if there is a headwind or offshore wind, it can happen earlier and elsewhere as well, he adds.

In conclusion, the meteorologist says that our country still has snow to offer, for those who should have a wish for a ski trip now in mid-June.

If someone is going up in the high mountains, there are opportunities for snow on the peaks, from about 1000 – 1400 meters. At some mountain passes it can be cool, so for those who are going over the mountain it may be a good idea to wear something other than shorts, he says.
