Dr. Hossam Mowafi, Professor of Critical Cases at the Faculty of Medicine, Kasr Al-Ainy, warned against complacency with gout, stressing that leaving it without treatment may pose a great danger to an important vital organ in the body.

Muwafi said during his program “My Lord, Increase Me in Knowledge”, broadcast on Sada Al-Balad channel, that the organ he is referring to is the kidney, explaining that gout may negatively affect its vital functions.

The professor of critical care medicine added that the persistence of high levels of uric acid in the blood, which causes gout, may lead to renal failure.

He explained that the deficiency of kidney function in a gout patient may develop into kidney failure, if he does not quickly control uric acid levels with medications and a healthy diet.
