Hospitals transfer patients due to pressure from influenza and RS virus | Interior

Hospitals are so busy with flu or RS virus patients that they sometimes have to transfer patients to other hospitals. This should prevent care from stalling, the National Coordinating Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS) said Thursday in response to a message in the A.D.

Hospitals transfer patients to other hospitals in the same region. It has not yet been necessary to move people to other parts of the country. It is unclear whether this should be done at a later date.

The Netherlands is struggling with the biggest flu wave since spring 2020. Since December 21 last year, there has been a flu epidemic. We usually talk about it when more than 58 out of 100,000 people with flu-like symptoms visit their GP for two weeks in a row and at least 10% of them have the flu virus.

“It’s currently being scaled up and measured in hospitals,” the LCPS said. “In winter it is often extremely crowded, but the combination of flu, RS and other viruses now creates a very high burden. Solutions are being sought within the regions in case a hospital is no longer able to admit people. This is normal protocol when he’s extremely busy.”

The LCPS was founded in March 2020 to distribute corona patients throughout the country. This was supposed to give the hospitals more air. According to the LCPS, it is “unpredictable” whether hospitals will have to start spreading patients again. “It depends what happens, we can’t look into a crystal ball.”
