Dresden (dpa / sn) – Saxony would like to better equip its hospitals for the future. Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) announced on Thursday after the completion of a “future workshop” on the future hospital landscape that inpatient care would be further developed and modernized. Representatives of the hospital society, the health insurance companies, the State Medical Association and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians discussed with various stakeholders at six online workshops. The Saxon Hospital Act has been in force since 1993 and is to be amended with a view to future needs.

“It was made clear to everyone involved that there can be no” business as usual “. We have to adjust to demographic developments,” explained Köpping. It has also become clear that the general demand for more staff or more money cannot be the only solution, as the demographic potential is also limited in these points.

According to the ministry, Saxony has 78 hospitals with around 25,000 beds (as of 2018). According to this, around one million cases are treated as inpatients in the Free State every year. Around 5.7 billion euros have been invested in hospitals over the past 25 years.
