The renewal of the recognition marks 20 years of JCI certified activity for the Capitoline IRCCS

The Bambino Gesù pediatric hospital in Rome has been confirmed for the three-year period 2024-2027 as an ‘Academic Medical Centre’ certified by Jci (Joint Commission International), the main international accrediting body in the healthcare field. The renewal of the recognition marks 20 years of JCI certified activity for the Capitoline IRCCS. With confirmation of accreditation, the hospital receives the seventh Gold Seal of Approval, the Jci Gold Seal.

In 2006 – underlined a note from the IRCCS – Bambino Gesù was the first Italian pediatric hospital to receive the JCI ‘stamp’. The certification was renewed every 3 years until, in 2015, it was recognized as an Academic Medical Center for its intense activity in the field of medical training and clinical research, by virtue of the collaboration with the chair of Pediatrics at the University of Tor Vergata which is based in the hospital. The renewal announced today comes a few days after the evaluation survey which took place at the Rome-Gianicolo headquarters from 23 to 27 September. JCI inspectors assessed the hospital based on over 1,200 measurable elements (from patient-centered care to infection control programs, from hospital governance to infrastructure, from medical training to clinical research), verifying compliance with all international standards of quality and safety of care.

The general director of Bambino Gesù, Tiziano Onesti, declares himself “proud of this result which confirms, once again, the special attention to the needs of our little patients and their families. I am deeply grateful – adds the Director – to all the hospital staff, who continue to focus their efforts on improving the quality and safety of care for children and young people. Jci accreditation is a clinical governance tool that increasingly helps us to work in a multidisciplinary way. with team and community spirit, consolidating the international scope of our clinical innovation and patient and family assistance projects”. JCI accreditation is considered the first level standard in global healthcare, recalls a note from the children’s hospital. In Italy there are 28 Jci accredited structures, including 6 academic centres.
