There are no worries about a shortage of beds, the health minister reassured
Sofia obliged all medical institutions to allocate 20% of their capacity for COVID
6,948 people are being treated for coronavirus in hospital after the epidemic continued to grow in the country for the seventh week in a row. This became clear from the Sunday data of the national information system for COVID-19. There are 522 patients who need intensive treatment.
In reality, the employment in the hospitals is already at the levels before Christmas, when it was the biggest peak of the infection in Bulgaria. At that time, more than 7,200 people were hospitalized, only 300 more than they are now.
There are no worries about a shortage of hospital beds for people with coronavirus, Health Minister Kostadin Angelov reassured on Sunday.
“Where we have increased pressure – we increase the beds. Over 50% are patients with COVID-19 in the intensive care units in the country, and at the same time this percentage decreases as we open beds, but the patients in absolute terms increase. We are already extremely well prepared with all the necessary medicines, consumables, personal protective equipment, so we have no worries in this direction, “he said.
All hospitals in Sofia to allocate 20% of their capacity for treatment of people with coronavirus, ordered the head of the Sofia Health Inspectorate Boyko Penchev. There are still places in Sofia hospitals, commented the mayor of the capital Yordanka Fandakova.
2019 new cases of coronavirus patients were announced by the national system on Sunday.
There are a total of 18,067 newly infected people for the week of March 6-13, which is an increase of over 37% on a weekly basis, analyst Tihomir Bezlov commented on Facebook. The share of positive samples from the total tests has already passed 18 percent, compared to 16% a week earlier.
A 50.5% increase in coronavirus deaths on a weekly basis was also shown by Bezlov’s analysis. 641 people have died from COVID-19 in the last seven days.
Unfortunately, a more difficult period is ahead than in November-December last year, Bezlov predicts.
The Minister of Health Angelov demanded that all cases of coronavirus in young patients and children be reported to him. As reported by “24 Hours”, the British strain has led to very small patients in hospitals.
