Hospitals are delaying non-emergency operations and are reserving more beds for covid patients

As with the first wave, hospitals have to pull out all the stops for the second corona wave. Non-urgent operations will be postponed from next Monday. Urgent interventions and necessary treatments that do not require surgery (chemotherapy and kidney dialysis, for example) and necessary rehabilitation will continue.

The regular consultations with doctors-specialists in hospitals will also continue for the time being.

Initially, the intention was to continue to offer regular care in hospitals, but now that the second corona wave is striking so badly, choices have to be made. It had already been decided earlier to reserve 50 percent of the IC beds and 4 times those in the nursing wards for covid patients from next Monday. From 2 November, this will be 60 percent of the IC beds and 6 times that in the nursing wards. This means that there will be 1,200 IC beds available.
