Pfizer and BioNTech Seek FDA Clearance for Booster Vaccine 1:16–
(CNN) — Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told NBC that there has been an increase in hospitalizations for COVID-19 among people who have been vaccinated but have not received a booster dose of the vaccine. .
“What we are beginning to see now is an increase in hospitalizations among people who have been vaccinated but have not received the booster dose,” Fauci told NBC on Tuesday. “It is a significant proportion, but not the majority by any means.”
NBC said Fauci pointed to Israeli data showing better protection against serious illness and hospitalizations for those who had received booster injections. Israel is about six weeks ahead in developing covid-19, as the United States is only beginning to see “signs” of waning protection against serious illness, Fauci told NBC.

“If you look strictly at the data from Israel, it is very clear that the differences in immunity lowered (without booster) are much more profound in the elderly, but it is general,” Fauci said.
He also noted that as vaccination rates in the US increase, more vaccinated people are expected to be hospitalized with COVID-19 because the vaccine does not protect 100% against serious disease.

“That’s where we come back to the importance of getting a boost,” Fauci said. “It will drastically decrease the likelihood that if you get infected while vaccinated, you will end up in the hospital.”
He also told NBC that “you would not be surprised if sooner or later, you will see that the data indicates that it will also be very important for people. [más jóvenes], when they have boosters available, get the dose “.
The US Food and Drug Administration is evaluating requests from Pfizer and Moderna for emergency use authorization for boosters of the covid-19 vaccine for all adults.
