Hospital ZGT lifted the admission stop for non-corona patients at the end of the day on Friday. On Wednesday evening, the admission stop was announced to cope with the rapidly increasing number of corona patients.

The expectation was that the recording stop could be lifted on Friday morning, but that eventually became Friday evening.
Due to the influx of corona patients last weekend and at the beginning of the week, wards had to be quickly opened where these patients can be nursed in isolation. To ensure that this, and the care for the non-corona patients, run smoothly, a temporary admission stop was necessary.

“We had to say ‘no’ to patients and that is terrible,” says Chairman of the Board Hilde Dijstelbloem. She calls the decision that sparked some unrest and anger on social media inevitable. “The number of corona patients increased from 10 at the end of last week to about 40 on Tuesday. Then you need more beds more quickly.”
The situation in Twente is still labeled ‘very serious’, with a record of 500 new infections on Friday. “In Twente we are not inferior to the west of the country, where the pressure is great”, says Dijstelbloem
We had to say ‘no’ to patients and that is terrible
The hospital is therefore scaling down regular care in the coming week. That means that about 20 percent of non-emergency operations and treatments are delayed. “It is a very bitter pill, but necessary to cope with the large influx of corona patients.”
“If we do not comply with the measures, the pressure will increase even further”, explains Dijstelbloem. It therefore urges everyone to obey the rules. “It cannot be the case that one party is celebrating while the other is out of control.”
