“Physically we can’t hold on anymore”, says Kevin, a stretcher bearer for 11 years. “We have 20-year-olds but also 50-year-olds and they can’t keep up”. The pace ? “It’s more about 40 races a day now, which is huge. We go up to almost 20 km so over five days in a row it’s significant”, continues the thirty-something.
It is all the more complicated week-end deplores Rosette. “On Sunday morning we are one. When we have to take the children we have to be two so either we wait for a caregiver to come with us, or we do not do the transport”. And then there are the sick leave “which are not replaced. So we go back on stops or when we can not come back we run with minimum staff”, says this employee, 10 years of stretchering to her credit.

There were efforts in February-March to strengthen the team, but this is insufficient. After confinement, hospital activity resumed and it is infernal”. He asks for job creation, the equivalent of “two additional people seven days a week”. He therefore hopes for progress from the management.
