The hospital ship “USNS Comfort” sent to New York to relieve the hospitals during the coronavirus crisis has left the port of the metropolis. Numerous vehicles and boats from the police and fire brigade said goodbye to the ship yesterday.
The “USNS Comfort” is now supposed to return to its home port in Norfolk, Virginia, and prepare for the next mission. The ship with 1,000 beds and twelve operating theaters had docked on March 30th on the west side of Manhattan.
Actually, it was just supposed to take on patients not infected with the new type of coronavirus in order to relieve the hospitals of the metropolis. But then it was repurposed – in the end, around 180 patients were treated with the virus, all of whom have since been discharged.
