Much has been achieved in health policy from the perspective of pediatric and adolescent medicine, although many questions remain unanswered and there is a great need for improvement, especially in the Hospital Care Improvement Act. After weighing the pro and con arguments, the DGKJ would welcome it if the draft law (KHVVG) continues and goes through the Federal Council on November 22, 2024 without the Committee Call for mediation. What has already been achieved should not be jeopardized, such as: B. annual funding of 300 million euros for the treatment of children and young people, the limitation of the minimum length of stay and the capacity of patient clinics out to establish a children’s institution. There are still opportunities to influence our role within the framework of the post-legal regulations. We can present our critical aspects there again; a special understanding of the political aspect of the special features of medicine for children and adolescents is evident.
In this regard, we support the call of the specialist associations in the AWMF ad hoc commission on care structures for hospital and emergency reform, even after the end of the traffic light coalition (cf. AWMF press release dated November 12, 2024).
