During an update on the health situation within the establishment, Dr. Thierry Paupard estimated this Thursday that the peak had “probably” not yet been reached.
“We need a collective awareness.” The day after Olivier Véran’s announcements, announcing the establishment of a weekend curfew in Dunkirk and Hauts de Flandre, the management of the Dunkirk hospital center took stock of the health situation within establishment.
“We are in the third wave”, said Thursday the doctor Thierry Paupard, president of the Medical Commission of establishment of the hospital on the occasion of a press conference. A wave “that is still considered difficult for the next two to three weeks,” he said. (…) We have probably not reached the peak yet so we remain very vigilant. “
The Dunkirk hospital center is currently caring for 82 patients suffering from a Covid-19 infection, 12 of whom were placed in intensive care. Faced with this influx and lack of sufficient capacity, the establishment has had to increase transfers in recent weeks.
Planned deprogramming
“Since February 1, we have transferred 63 patients”, totaled Justine Leibig, acting director general of the hospital center. These evacuations to other hospitals are still current.
“This night again, we had to transfer two patients aged 38 and 48. The typology of patients is a little different, said Thierry Paupard. These are younger patients” than those taken care of during the first two waves.
Another consequence of the saturation of the capacities of the Dunkirk hospital center, “a phase of deprogramming, in particular on the surgical activity” is planned. Its objective: “to refocus medical personnel on the Covid load”.
Given the current epidemic outbreak in Dunkirk and Hauts de Flandre, elected officials and health personnel fear the virus will spread to the east and south of the region. Some are already calling for preventive local lockdowns.
