Avezzano. In the midst of the second wave of coronavirus that is hitting Marsica and Abruzzo yesterday, the first changes were made to the departments inside the Avezzano hospital. The Medicina operative unit was temporarily merged and the area became a covid ward. In addition, the outpatient clinics have been cleared to make way for the Gray Zone, the ward where covid positive patients are stopped awaiting confirmation of the second swab. Currently they have often been forced to an exhausting wait outside the garrison.
The testimonies of patients who have stayed hours, even days, outside the hospital, in an ambulance or in the emergency room follow one another. The latest of these is the story of a man from Tagliacozzo who, before being hospitalized, had to wait 30 hours, without adequate assistance, in a dramatic situation. Now we are looking for other spaces and other personnel. Other areas should be redeveloped by the hour at the Tagliacozzo hospital. For health personnel, however, the solution has not yet been officially communicated.
The leaders of the ASL Avezzano Sulmona L’Aquila, also spurred on by the mayor of the city Gianni Di Pangrazio who wrote a letter to Marsilio asking for immediate intervention, are working to reconvert other departments in order to find new beds and other staff.
