Hospital bed occupancy due to Covid in Edomex is 4.2%

According to the weekly report on Covid-19, influenza and other respiratory viruses, from the Undersecretariat of Prevention and Health Promotion, so far in 2024 (August 28th 2024 – Epidemiological Week 34), the distribution of cases classified by patient type shows an outpatient predominance of 65.1%; mainly those between 20 and 59 years of age. In addition, the analysis shows a more severe behavior of the disease mainly in children under 1 year of age, from 1 to 4 years of age and those over 65 years of age where the need for hospitalization has been high.

In the state, there have been a total of 8,640 cases of influenza-type illnesses and severe acute respiratory infections, of which, 1,090 have been positive for Covid (38 in the last week), representing more than 11.7 percent of the total; that is, out of every 10 suspected cases, one of them is positive for COVID-19; In addition, during this year, there have been 32 deaths in the state, 3 this week.

In addition, according to data from the Severe Acute Respiratory Infections Monitoring Network (SARI Network), this week the occupancy of beds by Covid patients in Mexico State hospitals went from 1.7 to 4.2%, which means an increase of 2 percentage points.

Patients with the disease are treated in the Toluca Valley, at the Issemym Medical Center (5%); while in the South, North and Valley of Mexico regions there are no patients.

Currently, there are no patients in beds with ventilators, and there are no serious cases in the Intensive Care Units, although during the course of the week, more than 50 cases were reported for the fourth consecutive week.

On the other hand, regarding the 2024 Interseasonal Influenza Season, in the state of Mexico, a total of 2,531 suspected cases of viral respiratory disease (ILI/IRAG) are reported in the Viral Respiratory Disease Monitoring Health Units (Usmer), of which 63 cases of influenza have been confirmed, 1 this week.

Finally, in the state of Mexico, Influenza B predominates, while at the national level, Influenza A (H3N2) stands out.
