“Horten Upper Secondary School Cancels Almost 80-Year-Long Tradition of the Russian Train on 17 May”

For the vast majority of people, 17 May is a traditional day of celebration.

Young and old all over the country look forward long in advance to dressing in the wardrobe’s most precious garments, eating ice cream and sausages, listening to bands and going on trains. The Russians are looking forward to one last party, which, according to tradition, ends with a Russian train.

But this year, Horten upper secondary school breaks an almost 80-year-long tradition – and cancels the Russian train, writes The regular.

– They (the Russians, journ.am.) have justified it by saying that they have not had enough time to prepare for the Russian train. It is extra difficult this year because there is a long weekend before 17 May. Some are traveling away at this time, and others are going to work. Instead, this year’s Russ chooses to go at the end of the children’s train, says 17 May Admiral Wilfred Solberg to the local newspaper.

Dagbladet has tried Solberg for a comment. He has not yet responded to our inquiries.

Apart from the years during the pandemic, there have been Russian trains in Horten every year since the war, according to Solberg. He does not hide the fact that he thinks it is sad that this year’s Russe train breaks with the years-long tradition, but emphasizes that he does not fear that it could mean the end of the Russe train tradition.

– I think they will come back stronger next year, he says to Gjengangeren.
