As a horse transporter, De Voogd raced not only in the Netherlands, but also in Belgium, Germany, France and Hungary. Sometimes the transport went by ship to Norway, for example. Then I fly back to the United States. “Horses were his passion,” says Van Santen. “He Knew a lot about it. His way of working about him? He wasn’t a man to beat unwilling horses with a whip. But if necessary, he could be stern and go through with it.”
