The mayor of the Russian-occupied southern Ukrainian city of Melitopol was abducted today by Russian troops, Ukrainian officials said.
Mayor Ivan Fyodorov is under investigation for financing an “extremist organization”, pro-Russian separatists explained, BTA reported.
“A group of 10 occupiers kidnapped the mayor of Melitopol,” the Verkhovna Rada’s official Twitter account said. The Ukrainian parliament clarified that Ivan Fyodorov was taken away because he “refused to cooperate with the enemy.”
The mayor of Melitopol was detained in the crisis center in the city of Zaporozhye region, where he was dealing with supply problems, the Verkhovna Rada said.
